September in a QUICK GLANCE!

In ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

 

We will...

-Practice the Daily Five of Literacy, reading and writing and presenting at all opportunities.

-Review the alphabet (upper and lower) to ensure our prior knowledge is activated.

-Explore beginning and ending sounds.

-Learn new spelling words to build our vocabulary bank.

-Reading testing will be done to assess reading levels and start at home reading programs.

 

What is the "Daily Five"?  Read to self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading ( RAZ) and word work. 

 

 

In SOCIAL STUDIES

 

We will... 

-Explore personal identity; including interests, strengths and weaknessess that make us unique.

-Learn about our human basic needs and their importance.

-Review important groups, and our place within our community.

 

In MATH

 

We will...

-Review numbers 1-50 in words and figures.

-Learn and practice addition techniques.

-Practice addition in a variety of ways; Missing numbers, one more- one less.

-Explore squares and circles.

 

In SCIENCE

 

We will...

-Explore and discuss the characteristics of living things through readings, experiments, and assignments.

 

Physical Education:

 

We will...

-Practice good health; physically, mentally, and academically through balance and goal setting.

-Review the Canadian Food Guide Recommendations.

-Participate in physical activities associated with sportsmanship.

-Focus on keeping active and making goals.

-Work on developing the fine and gross motor skills necessary for proper sports play.

 

Daily Community: Students will be taught community skills and practice them daily. They will have classroom jobs to learn a sense of responsibility and teamwork. Students will work in groups whenever possible and learn to respect one another’s opinions. They will be taught to consider ones thoughts from a critical thinking view, collaborating ideas for the better and making meaningful friendships.

 

*To create a safe environment and community we will regularily have a sharing circle to learn about public speaking skills, and sharing with our peers while taking turns.
